Connor Wickham, a former striker for Ipswich Town, has signed a short-term contract with Charlton Athletic.

Ever since leaving Cardiff City at the end of the 2023–2024 season, the 30-year-old has been without a club.

During his brief tenure in South Wales, he managed just one goal in 12 appearances, compared to nine goals in 18 games for Forest Green earlier in the year.

Wickham, who signed a contract that runs through the end of April, has been working with Nathan Jones’ team for the past two weeks.

“He’s a really good signing because of his experience, physicality, and quality,” stated the Addicks manager. It will be interesting to see how much we can extract from him, but we’re happy to have him in.”

Wickham will team up with former Town players Tyreeq Bakinson and Tayo Edun, as well as current Blues players Freddie Ladapo and Panutche Camara, who are on loan at The Valley.

He stated: “I’m looking forward to the last portion of the season because it’s a fantastic opportunity for me to work with a good bunch of players and a good management.

“Results lately have picked up and it’s going to be a big push until the end of the season.”

He played 72 games at Portman Road and scored 15 goals in total before joining Sunderland in the summer of 2011 for a reported £8 million.
