A former manager of Sheffield Wednesday has had a difficult start to his new position.

Over the years, Sheffield Wednesday has had a significant number of managers.

The Owls have employed 12 permanent managers since the beginning of 2010: Darren Moore, Xisco Munoz, Tony Pulis, Darren Irvine, Dave Jones, Stuart Gray, Carlos Carvalhal, Jos Luhukay, Steve Bruce, and Danny Rohl.

When Munoz failed to win any of his 12 games in charge—he drew two and lost the other 10—Rohl took over as manager back in October.

Following his promotion from League One, Moore had a rocky summer. He left due to a falling out with owner Dejphon Chansiri and took a job at Huddersfield Town in September.

Darren Moore has struggled since leaving Sheffield Wednesday, despite the fact that Moore appeared to be a good fit for Huddersfield Town.

However, Moore was fired at the end of January following 23 games as the team’s manager and just three victories.

But Moore was back in the dugout with League One team Port Vale two weeks later. Moore hasn’t won in four games, though.

In his first game in command, Moore’s Vale team defeated Cheltenham Town, but the League One underdogs rallied from behind to end Moore’s team’s run of three straight losses.

Then, in a 2-2 draw against relegation-threatened Fleetwood Town yesterday night, Moore earned his first point as manager. Fleetwood Town signed former Sheffield Wednesday player Ross Wallace as a first-team coach last year.

With 13 games remaining, Vale’s current standing is 22nd in the table, four points behind the leaders.

Moore facing relegation to League Two after turbulent 12 months

Just last summer, Moore masterminded one of the greatest comebacks in Football League history, watching his Sheffield Wednesday side overturn a four-goal deficit against Peterborough United in the play-off semis.

But that widely publicised feud with Chansiri followed a sudden exit from Hillsborough. Then came his forgettable Huddersfield Town stint, and now it looks like Moore could oversee Port Vale’s relegation to League Two.

The club are winless in 2024 and have won just one of their last 13 fixtures in League One, now needing to close what is currently a four-point gap to Reading in 20th before the end of the season.

It’s been a difficult start for Moore, who was given a five-and-a-half year contract with Port Vale this month, and things might become worse if the team is demoted.
