Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland has been tipped by a 53-cap former England goalie to qualify for Euro 2024.

The progress of Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland, according to former England and Liverpool goalkeeper David James, will give him a “wonderful” chance of being included in the Three Lions team for this summer’s European Championship in Germany.

Butland, 31, has emerged as a standout performer at Ibrox since joining on a Bosman free transfer from Crystal Palace in the summer. According to reports, his performance has put him back in Gareth Southgate’s thoughts ahead of the tournament this summer.

Former England stopper James told Sky Sports that “Jack Butland’s in a wonderful position, all be it from the top of the Scottish Premiership.”

“I’ve been talking to people lately about which goalkeepers ought to travel to the Euros. Of certainly, (Jordan) Pickford is the best. Although it is a cliche to say that now, he is currently fit and has never failed England. He is without a doubt the greatest.

“Yes, they are now in a relegation position, but you have a player in that system who is well-known to the England team. The fact that Burnley is in this situation is not his fault, and as long as Pickford is healthy, goalkeeper selection won’t be made primarily on his merits; rather, it will be done as a member of a squad, the 53-year-old continued.

The goalkeeper for the Gers was supposed to be part of Southgate’s squad for the friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, but he was left out in favor of Crystal Palace’s Johnstone. Now, rumors are circulating that Butland is planning a return to the Premier League and wants to rejoin the England team, which he believes are connected.

However, James, who captained England at both the World Cup and Euro 2004, has forewarned the Gers goalie that he believes there might have been another reason Butland was left off of the most recent Three Lions roster.

The former England player clarified, “Basically, he hasn’t delivered with Southgate, and Southgate prefers his own men.” “Butland hasn’t been a part of it, especially Aaron Ramsdale, who has seen the England system with Southgate. He said, “He doesn’t know him.”

This next week, England will host home friendlies against Brazil (March 23) and Belgium (March 26) at Wembley Stadium.
