Sheffield Starlet Bailey Cadamarteri, a striker for the Owls, was unexpectedly left out of the team that defeated Millwall on Wednesday in order to rekindle their survival drive on Saturday.

Since the first few weeks of Danny Röhl’s Wednesday managerial tenure, the explosive adolescent player has been a vital member of the team. However, he was completely absent from their trip to Millwall, where Ike Ugbo led the line and Michael Smith and Ashley Fletcher supported him.

Although he is not now unduly concerned that the injury will keep Cadamarteri out of the lineup for an extended period of time, Röhl disclosed to The Star in his post-match explanation that Cadamarteri had sustained a knee injury and had to withdraw from the team on Friday.

“Bailey’s knee is bothering him,” the German coach declared. “This is football, we have to look at it. He has performed admirably in the past few weeks and months, but making the transition from the academy to the under-21s and finally the first team is a significant step for any young player. He needed to start right away and be a starter at all times.

I’m hoping it’s not too horrible. He might be out for a few days—ideally not weeks. We learned about it yesterday after training, and during training we had observed that he wasn’t prepared to leave. We are in this location.”

Due to Fletcher’s red card during injury time, Wednesday will be without a man in the final third of the pitch when they host Bristol City on Saturday. Whether Cadamarteri can return to the matchday squad is still to be determined. Regarding the health of key players Ian Poveda and Barry Bannan, who both faded late in the match but should be OK, Röhl was able to provide assurances.

“Just had a niggle and kept me out as a precaution so hopefully back and available for involvement next weekend-safe journey home for all the traveling Wednesday fans hope you all enjoy your weekend WAWAW,” stated Cadamarteri in a message to worried Wednesday fans on Twitter / X.
