Rowan Marshall’s participation in this season’s leadership group has received support from assistant coach and former St Kilda captain Robert Harvey, as the Saints prepare for Friday’s match simulation against Essendon.

As Rowan Marshall approaches his “prime years” of play, assistant coach Robert Harvey believes the time is right for him to assume a leadership role.

The game-changing ruckman, together with captain Jack Steele, vice-captain Callum Wilkie, and two-time Best & Fairest winners Jack Sinclair and Seb Ross, was formally elected by his peers into the club’s leadership group yesterday.

Harvey remarked during the news conference this morning, “I think it’s just great recognition for his growth, both on the field and off – probably more off the field.”

“We’ve been seeing his approach on the pitch for quite some time. Because of his bravery on the pitch, he is well respected, but I believe that players are now realizing He is at the height of his powers.

“He wants to go somewhere and he’s demanding more of his teammates, and that’s a good thing. I think it’s the right timing, we’re rapt, he’s rapt and he’s ready to take that step.”
