BREAKING NEWS: Hopman Cup 2024 Postponed Due to Olympic Scheduling Conflict

The renowned Hopman Cup did not return this year, although it did make a successful comeback to Nice last year with Holger Rune and Carlos Alcaraz in the lineup.

The Hopman Cup was reintroduced last year, having been absent since 2019. Since 2019, there hasn’t been an event because the Australian Open preseason was somewhat rescheduled, which caused the event to be moved off the schedule.

It returned the next year with a revised edition, with Nice, France serving as the hosting location, and it went quite well. Borna Coric and Donna Vekic helped Croatia win the competition in the inaugural season, which turned out to be highly successful.

They won the championship in the final, defeating Leandro Riedi and Celine Naef of Switzerland 2-0. Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune were the main attractions at the event; both players performed, though not particularly well.

They won’t be able to lead their teams to the championship this year, just as neither was able to do last year. The competition will not take place this year due to scheduling conflicts with the Olympic Games. Days after Wimbledon ended was contested in last year’s Hopman Cup.

Given that he had just returned from a lengthy two-week stay in London and that it wasn’t even a full week following the Wimbledon final, many were taken aback to see Carlos Alcaraz at the event.

This year, the International Tennis Federation and the event itself announced the decision on social media, informing the public of this development.

The competition will still go on even though the event won’t be held because of the proximity to the Olympics. It’s returning in 2025, the following year.

“Hey Hopman Cup supporters, Due to the proximity to the Olympics, we have chosen to postpone this year’s Hopman Cup in conjunction with ITF Tennis. We hope to see you at the Côte d’Azur in 2025 and are excited to have you return.”
