It appears inevitable that Freddie Ladapo’s time at Ipswich Town is drawing to a close, with strong indications pointing towards his departure in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Ladapo, aged 31, was loaned out to Charlton Athletic in League One during the January transfer window due to his limited playing time at Portman Road, where several other forwards were ahead of him in the pecking order.

Despite dropping down a division, Ladapo hasn’t made a significant impact, managing only one goal in 12 appearances for Charlton, often coming off the bench.

Ipswich Town will surely sell Freddie Ladapo despite Charlton Athletic showings

With Ipswich Town competing for a Premier League spot in the Championship with only a few games remaining in the season, selling Ladapo will likely be a priority in the summer, regardless of which division they end up in.

His career trajectory suggests he may be better suited to League One football. Ladapo’s move to Ipswich from Rotherham United in 2022 was initially successful, with him scoring 17 goals in a League One campaign that saw Ipswich return to the Championship. However, his goal-scoring prowess diminished upon returning to the second tier, with only two starts in 17 appearances for Ipswich this season.

Despite Ladapo’s recent struggles, his track record of promotions from League One could attract interest from clubs in lower divisions. However, his contract with Ipswich Town until 2025 might complicate any potential permanent move, possibly requiring a pay cut for him to leave.

Ipswich Town’s recent signings in the January transfer window indicate that Ladapo doesn’t feature in manager Kieran McKenna’s plans, further suggesting his impending departure.

While Ladapo’s recent form may be underwhelming, there’s still potential for him to excel given the right environment.
