Jannik Sinner secures his first Grand Slam title by defeating Daniil Medvedev in an exhilarating five-set match at the 2024 Australian Open.

Jannik Sinner orchestrated a remarkable comeback from being two sets down to clinch victory over Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open final. The Italian, reminiscent of Rafael Nadal’s 2022 Melbourne triumph, staged an impressive turnaround on Sunday, claiming his inaugural Grand Slam title. Overcoming a 3-6, 3-6 deficit, the 22-year-old triumphed with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 scoreline in a thrilling three-hour, 44-minute encounter at a packed Rod Laver Arena. This marked Sinner’s fourth consecutive tour-level win against Medvedev.

In achieving this milestone, Sinner became the youngest player to win the Australian Open men’s singles title since Novak Djokovic’s debut Slam victory in 2008. Additionally, he made history as the first Italian man to secure a major title since Adriano Panatta in 1976, becoming the third Italian man to achieve this feat overall and the first at Melbourne Park.

Expressing his gratitude during the trophy ceremony, Sinner acknowledged his team and supporters, emphasizing the collective effort in continuous improvement. “Thanks to my team, everyone in the box and watching from home, who works with me. We are trying to get better every day and even during the tournament, trying to get stronger and understand the situation a little bit better. It is not easy as I am still a little bit young, but I want to thank everyone.”
