According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Isaiah Oliver has allegedly signed a one-year contract with the New York Jets. By doing this, the Jets have added a potential contributor on the right side of the perimeter and strengthened their depth at nickel corner. Oliver, 27, contributed to the 49ers’ 12-5 regular season record in 2023. With 67 total tackles, two tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, two passes defensed, and one interception, the seasoned cornerback was quite effective.

Oliver played mostly on special teams during the Niners’ postseason run to Super Bowl LVIII, logging 35 snaps in three games. Oliver, a Colorado native, was selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the 58th overall choice in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The 2017 Pac 12 First-Team selection rapidly established himself as one of Atlanta’s most dependable defenders. Despite missing all but four games in 2021 due to a knee injury, he participated in 62 games (38 starts) throughout his five-year tenure with the Falcons. He recorded 203 total tackles, 34 passes defensed, three forced fumbles (one of which he recovered), and two interceptions in his stint in Atlanta. Even though San Francisco and the organization had a two-year contract last season, the team dismissed last month, clearing $2.4 million in joining the Jets, Oliver is now heading to his third NFL team in his seventh season in the league.

On Sunday, the Jets re-signed safety Chuck Clark in addition to adding Oliver. Officially, the NFL season kicks off on March 13 at 4 p.m. ET. On March 11, however, the start of the league’s legal tampering period, teams may start negotiations with free players.
