Kicker Jake Bates from the UFL’s Michigan Panthers has recently attracted attention from NFL scouts. His coach, Mike Nolan, has cautioned NFL teams against contacting Bates prematurely.

Bates gained recognition last month when he confidently nailed a 64-yard field goal to secure a win for the Panthers. This remarkable feat came after his initial successful attempt was nullified by a timeout called by the St. Louis Battlehawks, which failed to rattle Bates.

Remarkably, this 64-yarder marked Bates’ first field goal since his high school days. Throughout college, he specialized solely in kickoffs while playing for Arkansas and Texas State.

Just a week later, Bates further showcased his kicking prowess by converting a 62-yard field goal for the Panthers, solidifying his status as a rising talent.

Given his impressive performances, it’s not surprising that there are rumors of NFL interest in Bates. However, his coach, Nolan, is aware that NFL teams are prohibited from contacting Bates or his representatives until the conclusion of the UFL season.

Nolan expressed his concern about some NFL teams attempting to reach out to Bates prematurely, emphasizing that such actions are against the rules. He stressed the importance of focusing on the UFL season and maintaining performance levels to keep NFL scouts interested until the season’s end.

Nolan sees Bates and his teammates as family and wishes for Bates to have the opportunity to pursue an NFL career. However, he emphasizes the need for adherence to league rules and for Bates to remain focused on his current commitments.
