The Round of 16 clash in the African Cup of Nations is now confirmed, featuring the Super Eagles of Nigeria against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Saturday. The matchup was solidified following Cameroon’s exhilarating 3-2 triumph over Gambia on Tuesday, concluding the group stage.

Cameroon secured second place in Group C with four points, trailing behind Senegal. Guinea, despite losing to Senegal, also advanced to the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams.

Nigeria’s journey to the knockout stage involved a 1-0 victory over Guinea Bissau on Monday, earning them seven points and second place in Group A, just behind the surprise performer, Equatorial Guinea.

The critical game at the Stade de la Paix saw Cameroon scoring two crucial goals late in the match, leading to a dramatic win that eliminated Ghana from the tournament. In a thrilling encounter in Bouake, Gambia took a 2-1 lead with an 85th-minute goal by Ebrima Colley, but a Joseph Gomez own goal and an added-time strike by Christopher Wooh secured the comeback win for Cameroon.

Despite Cameroon being 80 places higher than Gambia in the world rankings, they faced significant first-half pressure and were fortunate to reach halftime with the score level at 0-0.
