Rick Dennison is reportedly being hired by the New Orleans Saints to serve as an offensive assistant, according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. Although Dennison’s position is not yet official, Schultz claims that he will oversee the run game for the Saints. Under new coordinator Klint Kubiak, he will be the newest member of the offensive coaching staff in New Orleans.

Dennison, 65, is related to Klint Kubiak’s family for a very long time. Alongside Klint’s father, Gary Kubiak, who played backup quarterback for the Broncos from 1983 to 1991, he was a linebacker for the Denver Broncos from 1982 to 1990.

In 1995, Dennison started his coaching career as an assistant to head coach Mike Shanahan and offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak of the Denver Broncos. Dennison was elevated to offensive coordinator after Gary Kubiak left in 2006 to take a head coaching position with the Houston Texans. For three seasons, he was employed by Denver in that capacity.

When Dennison joined Gary Kubiak as offensive coordinator in Houston in 2010, the two were once again together. That position would be his till 2013. In 2015, following a season with the Baltimore Ravens, the parties would reunite.

In 2015, Dennison joined the Denver Broncos once more. Under head coach Gary Kubiak, he served as Denver’s offensive coordinator for two seasons. As an offensive assistant, Klint Kubiak was also a member of their staff. They all worked together to help the Broncos win Super Bowl 50.

Dennison and the Kubiaks were reunited in 2019. With the Minnesota Vikings this time. For three seasons, Dennison oversaw running games and served as an offensive line coach. For two of those years, Gary Kubiak oversaw offensive coordinator duties. Following Gary’s retirement in 2021, Klint Kubiak took over as offensive coordinator for Minnesota after serving as the QB coach for two years.

Dennison hasn’t played football in the last two years. He’ll provide the offensive staff a ton of versatility and expertise as one of the most well-respected offensive coaches in sports. In the previous season, New Orleans’ running offense finished 31st in yards per carry and 21st in yardage. Dennison is expected to improve upon that performance.

This is the most recent roster of offensive coordinators for the Saints.
