In order to get Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall before the deadline, Sheffield United is now in negotiations over a deal.

In an apparent attempt to bolster the defense, Mason Holgate is reportedly in route to Sheffield for a medical before joining on loan from Everton.

But it appears like United might make a play for Worrall as well.

The Reds loosened their stance on Worrall, and now United are “in talks” about a deal to sign him, according to The Telegraph’s live blog (12:40).

Chris Wilder has had Worrall on his list the entire window, and it appears like the United manager may finally get his man.

Whether United can strike a deal for Holgate and Worrall is still up in the air. Due to loan regulations, any deal would require one of the players to sign a permanent contract.

Taking action
If United manages to recruit two defenders instead of just one before the deadline, that would be a sign of intent.

Worrall is a player who should be able to play a major role in the Championship next season, so if we have the funds to acquire a deal for him, it makes sense.

With Holgate and Worrall now out of the picture, Wilder—who has been eager to bolster the defense—looks set to acquire the upgrades he has been hoping for.

It’s unclear exactly what this implies for people who are currently in the XI. Nevertheless, with Anel Ahmedhodzic captaining Wilder in recent games, players like Auston Trusty and Jack Robinson may see their spots threatened.
