There are discussions underway to potentially revive tours between the Springboks and All Blacks. These tours would likely consist of three Tests along with midweek games, occurring every four years.

There have been ongoing discussions surrounding the potential revival of the historic All Blacks-Springboks tours, reminiscent of the iconic series seen with the British & Irish Lions. Recent reports suggest that Sanzaar officials met in Sydney, indicating progress in these talks. Mark Robinson, CEO of New Zealand Rugby, confirmed the intention to bring back such tours, highlighting ongoing conversations and the need for collaboration among all parties involved to ensure the concept enhances the Rugby Championship experience for all Sanzaar teams.

The proposed plan involves tours occurring every four years, with the inaugural tour possibly scheduled for 2026 in South Africa. Subsequently, the Springboks would visit New Zealand in 2030 to face the All Blacks and compete against Kiwi Super Rugby teams, following a year after the British & Irish Lions tour.

However, the prospect of the Springboks joining the Six Nations seems to have hit a roadblock. Despite ongoing speculation about South Africa’s potential inclusion in the tournament as early as next year, talks with CVC Capital Partners, a significant investor in the Six Nations, have reportedly stalled. This development casts doubt on the feasibility of the Springboks’ entry into the Six Nations in the near future, potentially impacting their international rugby calendar beyond 2025 when their Sanzaar commitment ends.
