Following the Spurs’ embarrassing loss to the Wizards, Cedi Osman and Victor Wembanyama couldn’t agree on why the team lost.
After losing to the lowly Washington Wizards by six points in the fourth quarter, the San Antonio Spurs are in disarray. With their recent victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Spurs were virtually guaranteed to defeat Washington.
After a crushing defeat, the Spurs were left scratching their brains as to why it didn’t happen.
It’s simple to blame a poor team’s defeat on insufficient effort. It makes sense that Cedi Osman chose to choose that path.
“I think we just didn’t bring our effort,” he stated. “It’s obviously a very tough loss because, obviously we would trust in our team and we could have won this game, but I don’t think that we deserved it tonight.”
Osman, who scored a season-high 20 points in just 28 minutes of action off the bench, was possibly the only Spur who put in some effort. Despite his 22 points and 11 rebounds, Victor Wembanyama refused to attribute the defeat on insufficient effort.
“I don’t believe effort has anything to do with it. We had fun, “he remarked.
Wembanyama chose to place the blame on the inexperience and lack of court awareness of the young Spurs.
“We weren’t very clever. I believe the lesson we learned from the game was that, at times, we were really immature. This was one of the poorer games of the season, but there will always be some good ones as well. We must develop mental toughness.”
It’s been said that defeat develops strength, and supporters of the Spurs had better hope that this is the case. Although San Antonio has only won 10 games this season and has suffered many humiliating defeats, strengthening the team’s mental toughness will be essential if they hope to get back to their winning ways.
