The Chicago Bears have taken the initial step in shaping their offseason strategy. Following the dismissal of offensive coordinator Luke Getsy two weeks ago, signaling a revamp of the offensive coaching staff, the Bears officially announced the hiring of former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron on Tuesday.

Although the recent hiring of Shane Waldron doesn’t offer specific insights into the Chicago Bears’ plans for the first overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft in April, it represents a crucial step in solidifying the offensive coaching staff. This swift action allows general manager Ryan Poles, head coach Matt Eberflus, and other decision-makers to make informed choices, whether it involves retaining quarterback Justin Fields and trading the top pick, trading Fields and potentially selecting USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams with the first pick, or pursuing other options.

Waldron’s coaching journey includes stints with the New England Patriots and various college football teams in New England from 2002 to 2015. He transitioned to the NFL in 2016, starting as an offensive quality control coach with the Washington Commanders. Following a brief tenure in Washington, Waldron joined the Los Angeles Rams alongside offensive coordinator Sean McVay, where he spent four seasons on the offensive coaching staff. Subsequently, he became the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks until the recent retirement of Pete Carroll earlier this month.
