When the father of Atlanta Hawks player Trae Young found out that Shake Milton, a veteran guard, had cleared waivers, he was taken aback.

“What the devil, man? How many talented players do the [Knicks] really need? This signing is AMAZING. The NBA needs players with Shake Milton’s skill to score baskets. Trae Young’s father, Ray Young, wrote on X, a platform that was originally Twitter.

The Knicks are adding Milton to bolster their bench depth amid the rash of injuries in their rotation. He will fill up their remaining open roster spot.

In light of the recent spate of injuries to their rotation, the Knicks are acquiring Milton to strengthen their bench depth. He will occupy the last available position on their roster.

According to SNY’s Ian Begley, Milton was a target for the Knicks even prior to their trades for Alec Burks and Bojan Bogdanovic.

Begley wrote on X after Milton’s signing became widely known, “As they monitored Alec Burks, Bojan Bogdanovic & DET, NYK checked in w/MIN on Shake Milton prior to trade deadline.”

The first to report about Milton’s anticipated signing with the Knicks was Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

After leading the Hawks to an Eastern Conference Finals participation in 2021 and a first-round series victory, Trae Young gained recognition as the Garden villain of the contemporary era.

when then, Young and the Hawks have regressed, while the Knicks have steadily progressed when Jalen Brunson joined the team, leading them to the second round of the playoffs the previous year.

The Milton Shake Addition
After playing in just four games since the Detroit Pistons acquired him on February 7 as part of the Monte Morris transaction, Milton consented to a contract buyout. For the Pistons, he shot 42.3% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range, averaging 6.8 points and 1.5 assists.

After losing eight of their previous 11 games, Milton will join a Knicks squad that is struggling.

After Brunson, he will give the Knicks depth in the backcourt. As a result of Immanuel Quickley’s departure as part of the original Anunoby deal last season, the Knicks have been using Miles McBride and Alec Burks as Brunson’s backups.

Former MSU star Milton, who was coached by former Knicks coach Larry Brown, signed a $10 million, two-year contract with the Timberwolves last summer in an attempt to play a bigger role than he did with the Philadelphia 76ers the previous season. He was supposed to be Mike Conley’s backup.

But compared to his 8.4-point and career-high 3.2-assist average in 20.6 minutes with the 76ers, Milton only averaged 12.9 minutes while scoring 4.7 points and dishing out 1.3 assists off the bench for the Timberwolves.

Euroleague Champion Regrets Playing for Knicks

Former Knicks player Mario Hezonja regretted joining the Knicks in 2018 after spending his first three seasons with the Orlando Magic.

Hezonja, who just won the Euroleague title last year, revealed this in an interview with Croatian outlet Jutarnji List on February 28.

“It’s all good, but I made a big mistake by choosing the Knicks,” Hezonja said. “I was 24 years old, and it was a retirement move, that signing where you go at the end of your career, and not with a lot of energy and desire that I had.”

Hezonja joined the Knicks, who in his one and only season finished with the worst record in the league (17-65), but things did not work out.

Hezonja remarked, “I tried to do everything perfectly, but there was that label.” “[Going to the Knicks] was the incorrect move.” It wasn’t that I wouldn’t play at all; rather, the narrative when I first arrived was that I was almost an obvious future All-Star. And in the end, I’m happy to be back in Europe.
