The Wisconsin football staff recently had the opportunity to visit with a gifted athlete who has gained popularity on their recruiting boards while on a road trip.

The Wisconsin football team has made Matty Augustine, a three-star offensive lineman from Connecticut in 2025, a top recruiting priority. In addition to being a top-50 tackler, Augustine is regarded as one of Connecticut’s best recruits. Though he was formerly thought of as a reach for the Badgers, the lineman may now have a future in Madison.

In an effort to improve their blocking ability, Wisconsin football has taken a fresh approach after having trouble in the trenches the previous season. Wisconsin football hired AJ Blazek, a former Vanderbilt assistant who oversaw one of the best defensive line units in NCAA football, in an attempt to revamp their offensive line room. Augustine was among the many players whose recruiting was abruptly altered by Blazek’s hiring.

The Badgers have offered Augustine a scholarship since May of last year, but they haven’t had much of an impact on the recruit. Up until their meeting with Blazek, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Penn State have been Augustine’s top recruiting schools; however, since then, Wisconsin football has begun to attract his attention.

Is Augustine a Potential Fit for the Wisconsin Badgers Football Team ?

Wisconsin football has long sought size in their offensive and defensive linemen, recognizing that while many aspects of football can be taught, natural physical talent and size are innate. They prioritize acquiring massive linemen who can effectively challenge opposing defenses, with an emphasis on players who are difficult to dislodge.

Augustine exemplifies this desired profile, standing tall at 6-foot-7-inches and weighing 290 pounds. As an offensive tackle, he exerts formidable force on the line, frequently overpowering defenders and maintaining a steady, unwavering stance. Augustine’s dominant presence is characterized by his ability to effortlessly maneuver opponents, earning him the descriptor ‘powerful’ in describing his style of play.

His skillset aligns perfectly with Wisconsin’s football ethos, positioning him favorably for significant playing time on their offensive line.
