Amazingly, Ange Stannett, a versatile standout who missed the entire season due to injury, was voted captain by the Fremantle AFLW players.

As part of an expanded leadership group, Stannett has taken over as captain from Hayley Miller, with the former captain serving as vice-captain.

The 27-year-old is still undergoing rehabilitation after rupturing her ACL during a Cockburn training session in May.

Miller has a good possibility of leading the Dockers on the field at various points during the season.

Miller will serve as one of the three vice captains, along with important attacker Aine Tighe and defender Laura Pugh.

The group now includes Emma O’Driscoll and a recent addition, Ash Brazil, a former netball player.

Stannett is a very well-liked player on the team and took home the Dockers’ best-and-fairest award for the first time last season.

Stannett remarked, “Given my personal circumstances, I’m a bit taken aback to be honest, but I’m extremely honored to be the third women’s captain of this Club.”

“It doesn’t mean you have to show up in a new way for the group; rather, it will mean we’ll be depending more on our other leaders and the group as a whole.

“I am really excited about the group we have put together and how things are going for 2024. I can’t wait to work with all the girls.”
