BREAKING NEWS: Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to ‘release funds’ for January transfer

The owners of Wrexham, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are expected to “release funds” for a significant January transfer, with the club persistently linked to acquiring a new striker.

The most recent candidate to be linked to the team is Jack Marriott of Fleetwood Town, who in just 19 games this season has eight goals in League One. Being in the bottom spot in League One and seemingly headed for relegation, Fleetwood probably cannot afford to lose their leading goal scorer without a replacement.

Nevertheless, it appears that Wrexham is prepared to shell out a lot of money to sign Marriott, who has scored 60 goals in League One and the Championship in the previous eight seasons.

With Eliot Lee and Paul Mullin among the league’s top scorers, Wrexham has now scored 54 goals in 27 League Two games, which is the fourth-highest total this season.

In September, Reynolds and McElhenney were very close to signing Luke Armstrong from Harrogate Town, but the deal fell through because they could not submit the required documentation in time.

Even though Steven Fletcher, who has five goals in 14 games, was signed by the Red Dragons as a free agent, they are still seeking to add a striker.

During the January transfer window, there was interest shown in League One scorers Jonson Clarke Harris, Stephen Humphrys, and Aaron Collins. But it seems like Wrexham is focusing on Marriott. A number of League One teams are willing to sign the former Peterborough and Derby County forward, who is eager to leave Fleetwood.

Jack Marriott is being targetted by Wrexham ahead of a potential January transfer

Stevenage and Oxford United have both been linked with Marriott, with the latter having a summer transfer offer of around £500,000 turned down. Fleetwood paid Peterborough nearly £250,000 a year ago to sign Marriott, but just a year into his two-and-a-half year contract, he is believed to be available for the right price

According to a number of sources, Fleetwood was trying to get rid of the seasoned striker because of his competitive pay, which is among the highest in League One.

Charlie Adam now has more alternatives thanks to the arrival of Ronan Coughlan from Waterford last month. However, Fleetwood, who are now bottom of League One, could use a siege mindset across the board.

Although Marriott hasn’t performed poorly this season, he has been benched for two of Fleetwood’s last three games, which raises the possibility that he will soon leave the team.
