Gilsenan featured in three Carabao Cup matches earlier this season and also made a substitute appearance at Queens Park Rangers in the league. The adaptable midfielder has caught the eye with his performances for Mike Sheron’s Under-21 team, notably scoring two goals against Sheffield United earlier this month. Additionally, Gilsenan has participated in first-team training sessions a few times since Eustace assumed control at Ewood Park, with the new head coach recognizing his potential.
“The Rovers boss stated, ‘I have only observed him in training on two occasions, but he has definitely impressed both me and the coaching staff. He’s a highly promising young player, currently displaying excellent form by consistently finding the net for the under-23s. He’s someone we’re closely keeping an eye on, and we’re delighted to have him as part of the team.'”
When questioned about the possibility of the youngster making a return to the first-team setup soon, Eustace commented, “He has been involved in first-team training since our arrival, and again, it’s a matter of assessing the squad and determining if there’s an opportunity to integrate young Zak. However, I’m confident he’ll have a role to play at some point between now and the end of the season.”
Rovers are back at Ewood Park today, facing an in-form Norwich side with aspirations to narrow the gap to the top six. Eustace eagerly anticipates the return to playing in front of home supporters after three consecutive away fixtures.
“I believe it’s crucial for the progression of this football club that there’s a strong connection between the fans, players, and the club,” he emphasized. “The support from our fans during our recent away matches has been tremendous, and they’ve played a significant role in our recent successes. The home fans were outstanding during the Stoke game, acting as the 12th man and helping us navigate through challenging moments.”
