Next season, Philadelphia will play their old defensive coordinator.
According to Jeremy Fowler of NFL Insider, Sean Desai, the former defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, is anticipated to join Sean McVay’s Los Angeles Rams in a “senior defensive role.”
Desai did not get hired for any of the many DC opportunities for which she had previously interviewed.
After initially demoting Desai in favor of Matt Patricia during the 2023 season, Nick Sirianni sacked him. What at the time seemed like a desperate move turned out to be an absolute catastrophe; the Eagles’ defense collapsed in the closing moments.
Therefore, it’s easy to claim that Desai didn’t get a fair shake in Philadelphia. We have observed that, although he might not have contributed to the solution going forward, he did exhibit some promise the previous year:
It’s clear that Desai’s team wasn’t flawless the previous season. But it’s simply untrue to say that everything was awful before his promotion. He has demonstrated a tendency to make wise substitutions at halftime. As an illustration, consider the fact that Desai’s defense allowed the Los Angeles Rams, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, and Kansas City Chiefs to combine for just six points in the second half.
Last season, the Rams shut out the Eagles in the second half after leading by 14 points after two quarters. Out of the thirty plays they ran in the second half, only six went over the 50-yard line. In terms of offensive points per game, the Rams offense ultimately placed sixth.
When Desai assists the Rams in getting ready to play the Eagles in the 2024 season, he will get the opportunity to play in a “revenge game.” This year, the Birds will return to SoFi Stadium.
