Tim Steidten of West Ham United may be interested in the sports director position at Newcastle United’s St. James’ Park.

Tim Steidten of West Ham United may be interested in Newcastle United’s sports director position, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who is speculating about possible Dan Ashworth successors at St. James’ Park.

Due to recent internal changes that will cause them to go out to bid for a new director on Tyneside, the Magpies are expected to see significant disruptions in their recruitment process.

Eddie Howe, the head coach, will be aware that the team needs to continue adhering to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations even though he hopes to be supported in the summer transfer window of 2024. Although Newcastle had a mixed 2023–24 season and is still in the running for a spot in the European football league, they will be disappointed with their season due to injuries and suspensions.
Ashworth leaves Newcastle following a Man Utd offer.

Newcastle was put in a difficult situation when Manchester United spoke with Dan Ashworth, their sporting director. The 52-year-old was placed on gardening leave by the Tyneside team on February 19th, following his clarification that he would be interested in taking up the position at Old Trafford. Darren Eales, the Magpies’ CEO, released a statement:

“While we are understandably saddened by Dan’s decision to depart, our exciting path continues, and we will soon start the hiring process for a new sporting director. We appreciate Dan’s contributions at Newcastle United and send our best wishes for the future to him and his family.
While Manchester United’s pursuit of Ashworth has taken center stage, Newcastle needs to focus on finding a successor of their own. Journalist Dean Jones revealed to GIVEMESPORT on February 22 that Paul Mitchell, the former CEO of AS Monaco, may run for the position of sporting director at St. James’ Park.

The 42-year-old announced his departure from the 2022–2023 Ligue 1 team, and it’s possible that he’s trying to get a position in the Premier League. Although it’s unclear if the Stalybridge-born director would be interested in the Newcastle position, he might view it as an intriguing undertaking and a means of breaking into the top division of English football.
Jones further stated to GIVEMESPORT on February 19 that the Saudi Public Investment Fund is willing to look overseas for a director position. In the meantime, Michael Edwards, the former manager of Liverpool, may be among the targets at St. James’ Park, according to the MailOnline.

Newcastle may choose to utilize Steidten of West Ham. Despite having recently joined the London Stadium prior to the 2023–24 season, the 44-year-old and head coach David Moyes had a “complicated” relationship. Thus, should Steidten’s relationship with Moyes remain tense, a move to Newcastle would prove to be an alluring offer.

Ben Jacobs: Ashworth’s replacement may be given careful thought by Newcastle.
Jacobs suggests that Newcastle might replace Ashworth with a number of players with Premier League experience. While acknowledging that Irons owner David Sullivan loves the German, the writer makes a suggestion that approaching Steidten might be “interesting.” As Jacobs stated to GIVEMESPORT:

Newcastle may take into consideration a few names that are out there that have experience working in the Premier League. Sam Jewell is going to join Chelsea, thus they will not be able to go back to Brighton & Hove Albion and grab him. What happens with Steidten at West Ham will be interesting to watch. David Sullivan likes him, he’s new, and West Ham doesn’t want to lose him. However, the Newcastle project could be alluring. We will need to wait and observe.

News on transfers involving Newcastle, including a James Garner claim

Despite the lack of a sporting director, Newcastle’s recruitment and scouting team will have been focusing on the summer transfer window of 2024. Like they did last season, the Magpies will aim to assemble a team that can qualify for the Champions League in 2024–2025.

James Garner, a midfielder for Everton, is a target for Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to Football Insider. Given their financial circumstances, the Toffees are eager to make a profit on the talent, having signed the 22-year-old for £15 million in 2022. Since Garner still has two years left on his Goodison Park contract, the report suggests that Everton may ask for a sum in the range of £20 million to £25 million in June.

Midfielder Joelinton may be sold in the summer, according to head coach Eddie Howe, who made this statement. With 18 months remaining on his St. James’ Park contract, the 27-year-old could force a sale if he refuses to sign a new one.
