Alfie Harrison, who has settled into life in the northeast, may be a star that Newcastle United signed.

Dan Ashworth’s potential departure from Newcastle United notwithstanding, his tenure has undeniably witnessed the arrival of numerous top talents at St James’ Park. Whether it’s established players like Anthony Gordon and Sven Botman or rising stars such as Alex Murphy and Yankuba Minteh, the Magpies have made significant investments in recent years.

First impressions suggest that Alfie Harrison could also join this list in the future. Despite being just 18 years old and arriving as the sole winter signing during January, potentially marking the end of Ashworth’s era, Harrison has already made a positive impact on Tyneside.

Harrison made his debut for Newcastle’s under-21 team recently, getting his first taste of action with the Magpies against Liverpool’s youth side. While Newcastle suffered a 2-1 defeat against their Merseyside counterparts, Harrison had the opportunity to play alongside experienced players like Ben Parkinson, Amadou Diallo, and Murphy, all of whom have gained first-team exposure in recent months.

On Wednesday night, Harrison was once again in action, this time representing Newcastle’s under-18 team as they took on his former club, Manchester City. Despite their efforts, Newcastle suffered another defeat, falling 4-2 against one of the top teams in the under-18 Premier League.

For the time being, Harrison will remain part of the club’s youth setup, where he’ll continue to gather experience in his new environment. Nonetheless, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him involved with Eddie Howe’s senior squad in the near future.

Harrison managed to score, reducing City’s lead to 2-1 with a well-placed shot using his left foot. While it’s still early in his career, the initial signs are certainly encouraging.

Pep Guardiola’s decision to invite Harrison to train with the City senior squad earlier this season becomes understandable in light of his performance. Moreover, the inclusion of a substantial sell-on clause in his transfer to Newcastle indicates that those in charge at the Premier League champions recognize his potential.

Speaking in Newcastle’s official matchday programme over the weekend, Harrison expressed his aspirations, stating, “I think this season has been positive so far, and I aim to continue that momentum here at Newcastle. My goal is to break into Newcastle’s under-21s team and perform at a high level, making an impact in matches with goals and assists to support the team.”

Looking ahead, Harrison added, “In a few years, I hope to be part of the first team. As a young player signing for Newcastle United, it’s a dream come true. I’m eagerly anticipating what lies ahead and how I can develop in the years to come.”
