BREAKING:The Yankees lose another bullpen option with the signing of Hector Neris to the Cubs.

Hector Neris inked a one-year, $9 million contract with the Cubs, which further reduces the Yankees’ possibilities for bullpen help ahead of the 2024 season, as The Post’s Jon Heyman verified on Saturday.

According to ESPN, Neris has a 2025 team option on his contract, but if he plays in 60 games, that option will become a player option.

Heyman reported that the Yankees had spoken with Neris as well as other relievers Wandy Peralta, Phil Maton, and Ryan Brasier.

Neris, 34, has been the Astros’ setup man for the last two seasons. He helped the team win the World Series in 2022 and get to the ALCS last year with a career-best 1.71 ERA.

In 2010, he signed a contract with the Phillies. Four years later, he made his MLB debut. In 2016, he played in a career-high 79 games.

Now, Neris will join a Cubs team that barely missed the playoffs last season, hired manager Craig Counsell and signed Japanese pitcher Shota Imanaga to improve their starting rotation.

Neris’ free agency choice, however, made it more challenging for other teams, including the Yankees, to bolster their bullpen when closer Josh Hader inked a record-setting contract with the Astros.
