The Packers bring on an offensive line coach.

Eddie Gordon, the offensive line coach at UAB, was hired by the Green Bay Packers on Monday to serve as the team’s assistant offensive line coach, a move that raised eyebrows, according to 247 Sports.

Gordon has coached in college football for the past seven years, four of those seasons with Georgia football. He was a member of the Bulldogs team that captured consecutive national titles in 2021 and 2022. After three seasons as an offensive line graduate assistant at Georgia, he worked as an offensive quality control coach in his last year.

Gordon was a collegiate football player for five seasons at three different universities prior to becoming a coach. Before joining the coaching staff of the Ragin’ Cajuns for two seasons in 2017 and 2018, he played for three seasons at Louisana.

Packers’ offensive line gets more powerful

The offensive line has always been the foundation of the Packers, and 2023 was no exception. Last season, Green Bay had the third-fewest sacks allowed in the NFL while ranking 11th in terms of total offense.

Even without All-Pro tackle David Bakhtiari in the mix, the offensive line for the Packers remained resilient and strong all season long. Four of the five linemen started every game and accounted for nearly 77 percent of Green Bay’s offensive snaps.

For the Packers, the acquisition of a well-liked and accomplished coach could be beneficial. Luke Butkus, the offensive line coach for the Packers, who is starting his third season in that role, will supervise Eddie Gordon.
