Bristol City striker Nahki Wells believes he still has a significant and impactful role with the team and hopes a successful next season will further extend his tenure in the West Country.

Preparing for his sixth season with City since joining in January 2020, Wells is the longest-serving squad member, aside from academy graduates. At 34, following Andy King’s retirement, he is the oldest and most experienced player in Liam Manning’s squad, alongside defender Kal Naismith.

Wells’ contract runs until next summer, having earned an extension in late 2022. As the transfer window nears, Wells is poised to play in the 2024/25 season, though his exact role will depend on pre-season outcomes. Last season, Wells made 41 appearances, starting 19 games, and is considered City’s second-choice forward. The uncertain contract situation of Tommy Conway could leave Wells and returning loanee Seb Palmer-Houlden as the primary strikers unless City signs a new No. 9.

In an interview with the Royal Gazette, Wells shared that he had positive discussions with Manning at the end of last season, reinforcing his confidence in his future role at the club.

“I still have a huge and influential part to play and I’m still an important figure in the side,” Wells said. He aims to rejuvenate, refresh, and improve on the previous season, hoping to extend his stay with the club.

Wells scored eight goals last season, including four in his final seven appearances, reaching 100 Championship goals. He expressed pride in this achievement and his desire to continue adding to his total.
