Buffalo Bandits Prepare for NLL Season Amid Training Camp Highlights
The Buffalo Bandits, two-time defending National Lacrosse League (NLL) champions, are gearing up for the 2024-25 season with a bye week providing extra preparation time. While the league’s “Opening Weekend” kicks off on Friday, the Bandits won’t hit the field until December 7, when they face the Rochester Knighthawks. Their home opener, set for December 28, promises excitement with a banner-raising ceremony before the match.
The Bandits wrapped up their preseason with a 1-1 record, including a narrow 13-12 loss to Georgia. This season’s roster, finalized after rigorous evaluation, includes standout rookie Lucas Nielsen, a former BC Junior A MVP, and seasoned defender Thomas Whitty, who brings his grit and experience. Coach John Tavares expressed confidence in the team’s composition while acknowledging the tough decisions made during roster cuts. He praised Nielsen’s scoring instincts and Whitty’s defensive prowess, highlighting the depth of talent within the squad.
Beyond player performances, lacrosse gear remains an integral part of the game. From stick customization to durability, the Bandits’ players and equipment team leave nothing to chance. Offensive star Dhane Smith, known for his MVP achievements, values precision in stick design, while veteran defender Steve Priolo relies on reinforced shafts for high-impact play. Each player’s approach reflects their role, whether it’s Smith’s finesse or Priolo’s physicality. Equipment manager Ted Cordingley, a seasoned professional, ensures every stick meets the players’ unique needs, blending tradition with innovation.
As the Bandits count down to their season opener, anticipation is building for another thrilling campaign. Fans can expect a dynamic roster, honed strategies, and the relentless energy that defines the orange and black. From new talent to veteran leadership, the Bandits are set to defend their championship title and continue their legacy of excellence. Here we go, Bandits, here we go!
