Bulls news from Chicago: DeMar DeRozan continues to work with Dillon Brooks despite being ejected twice.

The top small forward for the Chicago Bulls, DeMar DeRozan, still appears to be pissed up from his confrontation with his Houston Rockets counterpart, Dillon Brooks, on Thursday night. After DeRozan seemed to hard foul Jalen Green, the third-year shooting guard for the Rockets, sending him to the floor, the two got into an argument. When Brooks arrived, it became necessary to part ways with the two. They were removed from the competition.

Houston would ultimately triumph, 117-127. DeRozan wanted to give a post-game explanation for why he knocked Green over, according to Joe Cowley of The Chicago Sun-Times. However, he had more to say than that.

DeRozan claimed that he did not intend to hard foul Green, noting that he tripped and ran into Green, which caused his spill. The contact did appear excessive at the time, but DeRozan is not generally thought of as a chippy player, so that’s worth considering, too. It’s worth noting that Green didn’t take nearly as much umbrage with the moment as Brooks did.

“I was surprised just from the simple fact that I was trying to hedge out and just be aggressive, obviously bumped him, but if you look at it, I kind of tripped into it,” DeRozan said. “I am not a moron. These days, it’s rather difficult to discern when you check reviews later. I wasn’t deliberately attempting to accomplish anything.”

After the fact, DeRozan continued to elaborate on his feelings over the Brooks interaction. The two obviously still love each other. Surprisingly, both veterans have a lot in common: they both started for teams with similar 34-35 records, had their careers completely restored after joining their current teams in free agency (DeRozan in 2021, Brooks last summer), and most likely won’t make the playoffs this spring.

referring to Brooks as “just walking up on me in any type of way,” DeRozan stated. “I don’t like to approach someone while they’re not looking.” No, that’s simply not how we operate. When the foul was called, I left the area. I simply thought it was wrong to approach a man from behind.”
