There’s an argument suggesting that Jaren Jackson Jr. could be a strong long-term option as the starting center for the Memphis Grizzlies, given his defensive skills, ability to space the floor, and improving playmaking abilities.

Despite the team’s disappointing performance this past season, Jackson Jr. had one of his most productive years statistically while primarily playing at the center position. He achieved career highs in points (22.5), shot attempts (1162), and usage percentage (30.4).

While GM Zach Kleiman has indicated that adding depth to the center position will be a priority for the front office this summer, he also mentioned during his exit interview that the team might be best served with Jackson Jr. as the starting center. This suggests they could be looking for a replacement for him at the starting power forward position if this rotational change becomes permanent.

Should the Grizzlies seek an external solution for the power forward position, Nick Crain of FanNation’s Inside the Nets proposed a trade sending veteran Dorian Finney-Smith from the Brooklyn Nets to Memphis. Finney-Smith is a proven two-way player who has reportedly attracted interest from the Grizzlies. He posted solid averages of 8.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in the 2023-24 season, shooting around 35 percent from beyond the arc.
