Carlos Alcaraz talks about the invasion of bees after being stung in a weird scene

Carlos Alcaraz called his match in the Indian Wells Masters quarterfinal that was infiltrated by bees “the most unusual” he had ever been a part of, and he acknowledged that he was taken aback when he saw a swarm of bees flying at him.

One of the most bizarre tennis incidents in recent memory occurred on Thursday at Indian Wells when a swarm of bees overran Stadium 1 during the match between Alexander Zverev and Alcaraz. A swarm of bees appeared on the court as Alcaraz was getting ready to serve in the opening game of the third set.

Alcaraz attempted to flee after beginning to strike at the bees with his head and racket in a strange yet humorous spectacle. The 20-year-old Spaniard, however, was unable to flee and was ultimately stung in the forehead.

The play resumed after nearly two hours due to bee rescuers saving the day. Indian Wells defending champion Alcaraz came back on the court and defeated Zverev 6-3 6-1.

“This was undoubtedly the strangest match I have ever participated in.” It’s something I’ve never experienced before. Alcaraz remarked, “I’ve never seen anything like that.”
“For that reason, I believe I will remember the match. Everyone will remember this scenario, in my opinion, and we thought it was humorous. Indeed, that is true.”

When world No. 2 Alcaraz was getting ready to serve, he initially believed that the bothering thing was simply one bee. However, Alcaraz was astounded by what he saw when he turned back and realized what was actually going on. The Spaniard appeared to have initially believed they would disappear as well, but after being stung, he recognized the situation was severe and heaved off the court.

“Yes, I had won the opening point of the match’s third game, and I was prepared to serve for the following one. Although I noticed some bees, I assumed there were only a few or not many of them. However, I saw millions upon thousands of them flying over the sky and landing in my hair. It was absurd. Alcaraz remarked, “One of them was making out with me.

“Yeah, I made an effort to avoid them, but it was not possible. Like I mentioned, I was stuck in my hair and had to run. They frighten me a little bit (smiles).

“I had to stay safe, and yeah, I was running everywhere.”Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz will next take on Jannik Sinner.
Alcaraz will face Sinner, the third-seeded player, on Saturday in an attempt to advance to the Indian Wells final. Sinner, the Italian, is unbeaten in 2024 heading into the match. He defeated Jiri Lehecka 6-3 6-3 in the Indian Wells quarterfinal.

Even though Alcaraz, 20, and Alcaraz, 22, are relatively young, this will be their ninth meeting at the top level. Sinner has defeated Alcaraz in their last two meetings and has a 4-3 head-to-head record against the Spanish player going into the game.

Like the 22-year-old Italian hasn’t lost a game this year, the fact that Alcaraz has lost his last two games against Sinner isn’t exactly helping the Spaniard.

Sinner defeated Novak Djokovic in Melbourne Park earlier this year, making history as the first player to do so since 2018. The 22-year-old then won his maiden Grand Slam championship.

Alcaraz acknowledged he wasn’t sure how he would approach the match prior to his Indian Wells semifinal matchup against Sinner, but he did suggest that he would make some changes in light of his previous two defeats to the Italian.

To be really honest, I have no idea how I’m going to approach the match or the game. Without a question, he is the world’s finest tennis player at the moment.

“He’s performing fantastic; he hasn’t lost all year. It’s a lot of fun to watch him play. It will therefore be an extremely challenging match. It will be a great test for me to see where I stand in relation to him.

“I think I’ve lost the previous two matches I’ve played against him, so I need to somewhat modify my approach. We’ll see how it goes.

“But for sure it’s gonna be the most difficult match that I’m gonna play this year.”
Alcaraz is one victory away from defending his Indian Wells championship if he defeats Sinner. Sinner, on the other hand, may defeat Alcaraz to move to 19-0 and get one victory closer to his third championship of the year.
