A recent update has emerged regarding Carlos Alcaraz’s future at Southampton and the possibility of his departure.

Southampton secured Alcaraz from Argentinian club Racing last year for £12.3m. His impressive performance in 47 appearances on the South Coast attracted interest from Serie A giants Juventus. Alcaraz joined Juventus in January on an initial loan deal with an option to buy for £38m. Despite making four appearances for Juventus, he is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Carlos Alcaraz's agent now issues a 16-word update on his future at Southampton

In a recent interview with AS, Alcaraz’s agent provided the latest update on his future with Southampton. While Alcaraz may have played his last game for Southampton as he aims to impress Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri for a permanent move, his agent remains optimistic about completing the transfer.

Although there are reports of Juventus hesitating to activate his buyout clause, Alcaraz’s agent believes the move will happen. While uncertainty remains, it appears Alcaraz desires to continue his career in Italy.

Alcaraz, who represents Argentina in the under-23 category, aims to establish himself in the senior national team. To achieve this goal, leaving St Mary’s may be necessary, especially if Southampton fails to secure promotion under Russell Martin.

Carlos Alcaraz: Southampton star had January interest from Everton and Nottingham Forest

Considering recent news of potential Profit and Sustainability (PSR) breaches by Leicester City, Southampton may seek to raise funds before the financial year ends to comply with regulations. If Southampton remains in the Championship, selling Alcaraz for a substantial fee could be crucial to avoid PSR penalties. Martin’s reluctance to start Alcaraz for much of the season suggests his departure wouldn’t severely impact the team.

In light of clubs’ increased vigilance regarding Financial Fair Play, Southampton opted for loan deals rather than cash expenditures in January, indicating a commitment to financial prudence and adherence to league regulations.
