Celtic should think about breaking the transfer record for a center back.

The current transfer record for Celtic is £9 million. Odsonne Edouard was lured away from PSG to Celtic in 2018 by that very sum.

Despite earning record profits and having a sizable amount of cash reserves in the bank, we haven’t even come close to matching that since. Will we ever spend the money necessary to surpass that record? With the extremely cautious mob currently in charge of our club, it is quite unlikely.

However, all we can do is hope for the best. If that happens this summer, maybe we’ll break our current transfer record by parting with a sizable number of money. People will naturally want to spend that kind of money on something revolutionary. like Edouard, who was a prolific scorer, or Lubo, who is a brilliant playmaker and can pull people out of their seats.

However, I would want to see some significant funding allocated to defense, specifically to the center back position. Sure, we do have CCV, but that’s all. Stephen Welsh and Liam Scales are both at best squad players. Although Maik Nawrocki has a lot of talent, he seems to be built of glass, and Gustaf Lagerbielke obviously has no future at the club.

We would be more powerful and compact at the back, particularly on the European front, if we were to spend in a top-tier center back to play beside CCV. We must become more difficult to defeat.

This season has shown you how crucial having a strong backline is. We have suffered on numerous times this season when CCV has been absent. Just take a look at how much more assured and proficient we are now that Celtic’s Big Strong Man is leading the way this campaign. The whole side twitch because of him. We appear to be more compact from the middle to the forwards, with a dependable and excellent presence at the back.

We still need a left back, a strong striker, and a somewhat physical midfielder, but it would be more advantageous for us to use the most of our funds on a good center back. Just consider how much better we could be in the back if we had a defender with a CCV level of skill.

After all, they do say that good sides are constructed from the back. We are about to bring in a new goalie, so let’s defend him as much as possible and make Celtic more difficult to beat.
