Mark Pope, formerly of Kentucky and head coach at BYU, has been named as the new head coach for UK Men’s Basketball, succeeding John Calipari who departed for Arkansas after leading the team for 15 seasons.

Mitch Barnhart, UK’s athletic director, expressed his confidence in Pope, highlighting his nine years of coaching experience, deep connection to the University of Kentucky, and understanding of the program’s significance to the state. Barnhart praised Pope’s leadership qualities, emphasizing his role as a respected teammate during Kentucky’s 1996 championship season and his reputation as an innovative coach nationally.
