Chelsea may have to pay a significant sum to Manchester United if they decide against keeping Jadon Sancho beyond his current loan spell. The winger joined the Blues on a season-long deal with an option to buy for £25 million. However, reports indicate that Chelsea also has an alternative—if they choose not to make the transfer permanent, they will need to compensate United with a £5 million fee.
Sancho’s time at Stamford Bridge has been a mix of highs and lows. The 24-year-old made an impressive start, providing assists in his first three Premier League appearances. However, his performances dipped as the season progressed, managing only two goals and one assist in his next 20 league outings. Despite his inconsistency, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed confidence in the winger’s ability and progress.
“I knew Jadon from his previous clubs, and I had expectations for him,” Maresca stated. “He has had a solid season overall, apart from a short period when he was unwell. Maintaining top form over a long stretch is challenging, but he has done well, and I believe he will continue improving.”
With Chelsea weighing their options, Bundesliga clubs have reportedly shown interest in bringing Sancho back to Germany. Borussia Dortmund, where he previously flourished, and reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen are said to be among the clubs eyeing a potential transfer. Given his struggles in the Premier League, a return to the Bundesliga could provide the winger with a fresh start.
At present, no Premier League clubs have made concrete moves for Sancho. If Chelsea opts to sell, a Bundesliga switch seems like the most viable outcome. While Manchester United technically has the option to reclaim him, this scenario appears unlikely due to financial implications. Chelsea must now decide whether to invest in Sancho’s long-term future or cut their losses and allow him to move on.
