Chelsea has officially sealed agreements to sign Sporting Lisbon’s rising stars, Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo. The Premier League club has confirmed both transfers, bringing in two highly regarded young talents. Quenda, a 17-year-old winger, was previously linked with a move to Manchester United, where he could have reunited with former Sporting coach Ruben Amorim. Meanwhile, 20-year-old midfielder Essugo is currently on loan at Spanish side Las Palmas.
Sporting Lisbon disclosed the financial details of the transfers in an official statement, revealing that Chelsea will pay a total of €74.5 million (£62.4 million) for both players. The deal for Quenda is valued at €50.77 million upfront, with an additional €1.36 million in potential performance-related bonuses. Essugo’s transfer fee is set at €22.27 million, with no further add-ons. Additionally, Sporting will receive €3.35 million in intermediation fees for Quenda and just under €1 million for Essugo.
While the transfers are confirmed, both players will remain with their current clubs before making the move to Stamford Bridge. Quenda will continue playing for Sporting Lisbon until the end of the 2025/26 season, ensuring his development in Portugal before transitioning to Chelsea. Essugo, on the other hand, will complete his loan spell with Las Palmas before officially joining Chelsea in the summer.
These signings reflect Chelsea’s ongoing investment in young talent, reinforcing their strategy of securing promising players for the future. Quenda is regarded as one of the most exciting attacking prospects in European football, while Essugo brings strength and versatility to the midfield. Their arrival is expected to add depth and competition to Chelsea’s squad in the coming years.
With the transfer market constantly evolving, Chelsea’s proactive approach highlights their long-term vision. The club continues to scout and acquire emerging talents, aiming to build a formidable team capable of sustained success. Fans will be eager to see how both Quenda and Essugo develop before they don the Chelsea jersey in the near future.
