Coach Alcaraz Won’t Call Him The French Open’s “Top Favorite”

The coach of Carlos Alcaraz, Juan Carlos Ferrero, does not believe that his protégé is the overwhelming favorite in Roland Garros.
Since making his ATP Tour debut as a teenager, Alcaraz has excelled on clay, with a record of 128–34 at all tennis levels. it’s a 79% success rate, and the ATP Tour has seen a lot of it.
In his career, he has participated in 16 finals, 10 of which have taken place on clay. His record in clay finals is 7-3, which demonstrates his strength on the surface.
He’s among the world’s finest players, without a doubt. So yet, though, that hasn’t translated into a Roland Garros trophy. Although he has performed well in the past, he has never quite made it to the championship round.
He had a great opportunity against Novak Djokovic the previous year, but he just couldn’t quite pull it off. His dreams came to an abrupt end when he began to cramp, just as he was beginning to dominate the match.
Although there is a likelihood that he will contend for the trophy once more this year, his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero has brushed aside any notion that he will be the clear favorite.
In an interview with Marca, Ferrero acknowledged that Alcaraz would be among the favorites if he had a strong clay season, but he refrained from referring to him as the favorite.
After a strong tour on clay, he is among the favorites if he shows up confidently. The overwhelming favorite? It is not required, in my opinion, to assume that function. He can undoubtedly be among the favorites to win if he performs well and uses all of his might.”
Ferrero uses deliberate word choice, and with good cause. He is correct that Alcaraz is among the favorites, but other players are also capable of winning it all.
For the majority of his career, Sinner has excelled on clay, and Novak Djokovic is still active. Additionally, the pressure angle was significant the previous year.
Alcaraz’s cramps, according to Djokovic, were more psychological than physical because he was affected by the role of favorite. Ferrero might be protecting his player from more pressure because the Spanish player had a similar opinion.
