Collingwood Targets Defensive Depth and Key Trade Opportunities
As Collingwood seeks to rebuild after missing the finals, they have set their sights on Essendon star Jake Stringer. According to AFL Media’s Cal Twomey, Stringer has reportedly informed people that he has played his last game for the Bombers. Collingwood also has an interest in his teammate Ben Hobbs, who has fallen out of favour at Essendon.
The Pies are in the market for defensive reinforcements following Nathan Murphy’s pre-season retirement. Adelaide’s Mark Keane was a target, but he recently signed a three-year extension with the Crows.
Collingwood might consider Melbourne’s Adam Tomlinson to bolster their backline, especially as veteran defender Jeremy Howe advances in age. Meanwhile, John Noble’s unexpected trade request to Gold Coast leaves another gap to be addressed in defense.
Port Adelaide is reportedly offering small forward Joe Richards a four-year deal, while tall forward Nathan Kreuger might seek new opportunities for more consistent senior appearances. Midfielders Finlay Macrae and Reef McInnes have struggled to secure spots in Craig McRae’s side, raising questions about their future at the club. Collingwood has also been linked to Power’s Dan Houston, Richmond’s Tom Lynch, St. Kilda’s Tim Membrey, and GWS’ James Peatling, though they face challenges due to limited draft capital this season.
