CONFIRMED: The Cowboys Re-sign Veteran Defensive Lineman

The Dallas Cowboys are adding a seasoned defensive lineman back to the roster prior to the start of the free agency period. Carl Davis, a journeyman defensive tackle who may not be well-known to fans, looks to be returning to Dallas.

Patrik Walker, a writer for DallasCowboys.com, broke the story first on March 6. In addition to playing for a number of clubs, Davis was a member of the Cowboys in 2023.

Just in time for 2024 NFL free agency, nose tackle Carl Davis was added to the #Cowboys roster. Walker scribbled on X, “All in.” “After playing in three games for the #Cowboys in 2023, Carl Davis is back.” He was previously selected by the Ravens in the third round (2015) out of Iowa. He has also played for the Browns, Colts, Jaguars, Patriots, and Seahawks. In his 19 NFL starts, he has 68 total tackles.
Since Davis only made three appearances last year and only played thirty defensive snaps, there isn’t much to say about his 2023 campaign. In the process, he did manage three tackles, but no other noteworthy data were recorded.

Cowboys DE Planned to Evaluate Independent Contractors
Dallas appears not to be re-signing defensive lineman Dorance Armstrong Jr., even though they are bringing back Davis. Armstrong will be a free agent when the contract window begins, despite having established a noteworthy role with the Cowboys.

Armstrong is “most likely” to join with another organization, according to ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler. Moreover, he thinks the Washington Commanders could be a viable landing location.

On March 3, Fowler noted, “This important Dallas defensive lineman has plenty of interest.” “It’s unlikely that he’ll return to the Cowboys; Dan Quinn, the new Commanders coach, might try to sign him in Washington.”
For Armstrong and the Commanders, this decision certainly makes sense. But for a man who has amassed 16 sacks in the previous two seasons to start going after Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott would hurt Dallas supporters.
