Last season, the NFL instructed the University of Houston to discontinue their use of light blue uniforms, inspired by the Houston Oilers’ trademarked “Luv Ya Blue” attire. Despite the NFL’s directive, the university has decided to reintroduce these uniforms, asserting their right to do so. Houston’s athletic director, Chris Pezman, confirmed the decision, stating that they’ve thoroughly assessed the situation and intend to move forward.

Pezman mentioned that Houston has communicated their stance to the NFL but has not received a response yet. The university argues that their use of the light blue color scheme is justified, given its historical significance to the city.

While similar to the Oilers’ throwback uniforms, Houston’s jerseys feature a slightly different shade of blue and are embraced by fans. The outcome of this dispute remains uncertain, with potential implications for both parties.
