Having a dependable wing who can defend and score is essential in today’s NBA. In that regard, the Milwaukee Bucks’ front staff may look into getting Derrick Jones Jr. from the Dallas Mavericks when free agency begins soon. Although his final collegiate season with the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels was marked by controversy, Jones pondered returning for another season in 2016. Ultimately, he opted to declare for the NBA Draft that year, but no team selected him.

Fortunately, the Phoenix Suns were impressed by his summer league performance and signed him for the 2016-17 season. Jones did not make his NBA debut until his tenure with the Miami Heat at the beginning of 2018. From that time until the 2019-20 season, the lanky forward averaged 7.3 points and 3.8 rebounds while defending different spots on the other end of the floor.

Fast forward to now, and NBA fans will soon watch him compete in the NBA Finals alongside Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks. His ability to attack the rim and control his assignment for the night has helped his club overcome a slew of Western Conference opponents, including the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
