Dannen and Rhule had mutual acquaintances in the sports world, so they knew one other rather well.

In addition to inquiring about the Nebraska position, Dannen had a query for Rhule, the person he is currently supervising.

“I considered him a friend before I came here and I’ll consider him a friend some day down the line,” Dannen said on Tuesday. “I want him to succeed, but I wanted to know that he was good with me as much as I was gonna be good with him.”

In the course of his press

Dannen stated at the press conference on Tuesday that Rhule and he should work as “partners” rather than just an athletic director managing a football coach. While acknowledging that he is not an expert in football, Dannen said there are steps he can do to ensure Rhule and his team are successful.

Dannen remarked, “I have to be a great partner with him.” “I have to work hard for him and speak out for him. I own the champion in him. What is it that he needs? Our ultimate objective is the same—to add one more trophy to the trophy case. I have no idea what that road entails. Yes, he does. He has the responsibility of setting me on that course, and there will be occasions when I can help.

and assist him. I am capable of navigating the terrain. I am aware that if acquiring and keeping players is his top goal, it is also mine.”

Dannen expressed his admiration for the Nebraska football team and its accomplishments throughout his Tuesday remarks. In response to a question on Tuesday concerning the program’s two-decade hiatus, he stated he wasn’t worried about the reasons Lincoln hasn’t performed well. Working alongside Rhule was one of the main perks of the job, he said, adding that he thinks Rhule has what it takes to succeed.

Dannen claimed that after learning the lay of the land in Lincoln, he informed Rhule that he would be tied to his hip and likened himself to

like a snowplow, clearing the way for achievement.

“When he was hired, and I said this to Trev (Alberts), put that guy in this goldmine, and great things are going to happen,” Dannen stated. “I don’t really care are about the why not, but I care about the why now and what can happen.”

Dannen’s preference was to sit at the adult table during Thanksgiving dinner.

No offense intended, but everyone in his business knows what he’s saying as someone who rose to run the athletic departments at Tulane and Northern Iowa. This explains why it makes sense that Chris Kabourek, the interim president of the University of Nebraska, received “overwhelming” interest in the position.

Resumes will be supplied if it’s an SEC or Big Ten position. Should that kind of thing indeed occur at that level, you know. Keep your cover letter at one page, remember!

“The Big Ten is the table to sit at, because that’s where decisions will be made, that’s where the future will be determined and that’s where fate will be set,” Dannen, who wasn’t going to participate.

quit Tulane this past year, unless it was for a position in the SEC or Big Ten. “You want to be in those positions rather than wait for someone to determine those things for you.”

He is seated. Not in the center, ideally, with a left-hander seated to his right.
