Dennis Lawrence, the first-team coach at Coventry City, is leaving the Championship squad to play soccer for Minnesota United in Major League Soccer.

After Saturday’s FA Cup quarterfinal against Wolves, the 49-year-old will leave the Sky Blues to become an assistant head coach for the MLS team.

Since 2021, Lawrence has been a member of Mark Robins’ backroom crew.

According to Robins, Dennis and his family have an amazing chance, as stated on the club website.

Lawrence, a former center back for Wrexham and Swansea, participated in the 2006 World Cup and earned 89 caps for Trinidad & Tobago.

After leading his nation from 2017 to 2019, he joined Coventry two years later and played a key role in getting them to the Championship play-off final the previous season.

“I would like to thank Dennis for his hard work and important contribution to the success that we have experienced over the last few years, during which he has been a popular and integral part of our team,” Robins stated.

Eric Ramsay, a former assistant coach for Manchester United and Wales, is the head coach of Minnesota. He took over as the league’s youngest manager in February at the age of 32.
