Following an intense month of recruitment efforts, the Texas Tech football program is poised to enjoy the fruits of its labor with the incoming class of 2025. On Monday, the program secured the commitment of linebacker Kaleb Burns from Houston, Texas, who was one of their top targets.

Kaleb Burns, a 3-star prospect according to 247Sports.com, stands at 6 feet tall and weighs 220 pounds. He is ranked as the 59th best linebacker in the nation and the 81st best player in the state of Texas. His commitment places him as the seventh highest-rated player in Texas Tech’s 2025 recruiting class.

Apart from Texas Tech, Burns has received offers from various other programs including Baylor, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Houston, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Utah, among others. Following an official visit to Lubbock on June 14, Burns has decided to become a part of the Red Raider family.

During the previous season, Burns showcased his skills by recording 73 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception. In addition to football, Burns is also involved in track and field, participating in events such as the 100- and 200-meter sprints, as well as the shot put.

The Texas Tech recruiting class for the current cycle has welcomed its second linebacker. Earlier this year, 3-star Flower Mound, Texas linebacker Brock Golwas made his commitment to the Red Raiders.

Among the 17 players in Tech’s class, only six are defensive players, highlighting the significance of adding a player like Burns. The Red Raiders’ class is currently ranked 29th nationally and fourth in the Big 12, trailing behind TCU, West Virginia, and Oklahoma State. However, as more commitments are anticipated in the coming days and weeks, this ranking is expected to rise.
