After the Conference Semifinals concluded in the 2023-2024 season, the New York Knicks are poised to reassess and revamp their roster, with a focus on bolstering their bench strength. One potential addition under consideration is Milwaukee Bucks guard Malik Beasley, who will become an unrestricted free agent.

In a recent column by Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, he advocated for the Knicks to pursue Beasley, emphasizing the team’s need for more shooting prowess. However, Buckley also acknowledged concerns about Beasley’s defensive impact, which might not align with Coach Tom Thibodeau’s defensive-oriented approach.

Beasley, a starter for the Bucks, presents challenges in persuading him to accept a bench role with the Knicks. Despite this, his impressive three-point shooting stats, averaging 11.3 points on 41-percent shooting from beyond the arc in the 2023-2024 regular season, make him an enticing prospect.

Buckley argued that Beasley’s scoring ability could significantly enhance the Knicks’ offensive efficiency, particularly from long range. Given the Knicks’ offensive struggles in the playoffs and the dearth of available players off the bench, acquiring Beasley could address a pressing need.

However, while Beasley could offer offensive firepower, the Knicks must also prioritize bolstering their backup point guard position. Miles McBride filled in admirably this season, but the absence of Immanuel Quickley was felt. Buckley suggested names like Kyle Lowry, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Tyus Jones as potential targets in free agency, with Jones being the preferred fit due to his strong assist-to-turnover ratio.

Considering the financial constraints and the need to re-sign key players like OG Anunoby and Isaiah Hartenstein, the Knicks’ flexibility in pursuing additional moves may be limited. With the non-taxpayer’s midlevel exception at their disposal, the team will have to judiciously allocate their resources to acquire players who can make a meaningful impact on the court.
