East Carolina University has bolstered its quarterback lineup with the addition of Bryson Harrison, a transfer from Georgia State. Originally from Roswell, Georgia, and a graduate of Lassiter High School, Harrison sat out last season as a redshirt with the Panthers. Now a redshirt freshman, he brings four years of eligibility to the Pirates.

Harrison is set to become the fourth scholarship quarterback for ECU, joining a group that includes incoming walk-ons and returnee Ty Little. Typically, teams carry a minimum of four scholarship quarterbacks, sometimes up to five or six. At ECU, Harrison enters a competitive quarterback landscape, vying for playing time alongside transfers Katin Houser from Michigan State and Jake Garcia from Missouri, backed by redshirt freshman Raheim Jeter.

The Pirates also secured three-star quarterback Cole Hodge in the 2024 class, although an injury may sideline him for the upcoming season. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 205 pounds, Harrison brings depth and versatility to the quarterback room. In high school, he excelled as a dual-threat quarterback, experienced in both the triple option and spread offense.

During his junior year, he completed 54 percent of his passes for 1,200 yards with eight touchdowns, while also rushing for eight touchdowns. As a sophomore, he focused on passing for 515 yards within a triple option scheme, showcasing his adaptability. Additionally, as a senior, he amassed 602 rushing yards and five touchdowns, highlighting his versatility and athleticism.

Harrison entered college with a three-star rating (82 overall) from 247Sports, placing him as the 131st best quarterback nationally and the 186th best player in Georgia.

East Carolina University has been busy shaping its roster during the spring transfer portal period. Alongside Harrison, they secured commitments from notable players such as Penn State running back London Montgomery, who visited with Harrison recently. Other recent additions include Houston offensive lineman Karson Jones, Ole Miss tight end Jayvontay Conner, and North Carolina defensive back Ayden Duncanson.

Since the offseason began, ECU has added 18 scholarship transfers, although two players, wide receiver O’Mega Blake and offensive lineman Qae’Shon Sapp, transferred out after participating in spring practice.

Entering the sixth season under coach Mike Houston in Greenville, the Pirates are aiming to bounce back after a disappointing 2-10 season in 2023, following two consecutive bowl appearances in 2021 and 2022. The team has undergone significant changes this offseason, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. With Harrison’s arrival, the quarterback room now features three transfer quarterbacks, with Raheim Jeter as the lone holdover from last year, operating under new offensive coordinator John David Baker.
