Dragons Unveil Train and Trial Players for the 2025 NRL Season
The St. George Illawarra Dragons have announced their train-and-trial roster for the 2025 NRL season as the club aims to improve its performance and secure a spot in the Finals. This announcement follows the confirmation of Matthew Eisenhuth’s contract extension and leaves just one remaining vacancy on head coach Shane Flanagan’s Top 30 roster as he enters his second year in charge.
Ten promising players have been granted train-and-trial contracts, including some of the brightest young prospects from the club’s development pathways. These names include Aaymon Fitzgibbon, Ben Rumble, Cyrus Stanley-Traill, Hayden Buchanan, Jacob Halangahu, Jarrah Treweek, Jett Liu, Kade Reed, Kyan Hjaltason, and Leeroy Weatherall. Among them, Jacob Halangahu, a standout Australian Schoolboys and U19 NSW Blues representative, is poised to make waves after leading St. George to their first SG Ball Cup title in 30 years.
Flanagan expressed optimism about Halangahu’s future, stating on 2GB’s Wide World of Sports Radio:
“It’s a big ask—he’s just out of school. But with his attitude and work ethic, I wouldn’t rule out his NRL debut next season. The way he trains shows he’s ready, and while we’ll take our time, he’s definitely on track to play first grade.”
Another notable update involves Cody Ramsey, who won’t be included in the Top 30, development squad, or train-and-trial list as he continues recovering from ulcerative colitis. Meanwhile, Ammaron Gudgeon, a former Melbourne Storm fullback, has secured a deal with the Dragons. Gudgeon will feature in the NSW Cup team and train with the first-grade squad once a week as he develops further.
With the roster shaping up, the Dragons’ predicted lineup for 2025 looks competitive, led by key players like Clint Gutherson, Damien Cook, and Valentine Holmes. As Flanagan works to refine the squad, expectations are high for a more successful campaign in the upcoming season.
