It’s unlikely that Dallin Hall would receive significant playing time next season if he were to transfer from BYU to the Duke basketball program. Despite this, the 6-foot-4, 200-pound sophomore, who initiated the transfer process a week ago, has included Duke among the ten options he’s considering for his next destination. Despite starting in 51 of the 68 games he played for the Cougars, Hall is exploring other opportunities for his collegiate basketball career.

Earlier this week, 247Sports’ Travis Branham reported that Dallin Hall’s list comprised only eight schools: Creighton, Clemson, Cincinnati, Florida, Washington, Utah, Utah State, and a return to BYU. However, on Friday evening, Branham mentioned that two more schools, Duke and Virginia, have now joined the mix.

Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer and his team have been actively pursuing experienced perimeter players, likely to bolster their roster behind returning players Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster. While their efforts have primarily focused on forwards like outgoing Purdue senior Mason Gillis and Syracuse sophomore Maliq Brown, the addition of Duke and Virginia to Hall’s list suggests his recruitment is worth monitoring in the coming weeks. This comes as Scheyer and his staff work to replenish a roster that has seen ten departures this offseason due to the NBA Draft and the transfer portal.

In his sophomore year playing for BYU, Dallin Hall posted averages of 9.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, while playing 29.3 minutes per outing. This season ended with BYU’s exit in the NCAA Tournament Round of 64, followed by the departure of head coach Mark Pope to Kentucky a few weeks later.

Whoever joins the Blue Devils for the 2024-25 season will find themselves alongside teammates Tyrese Proctor, Caleb Foster, and six incoming freshmen, forming the nation’s top-ranked recruiting class.
