Duke faces significant roster turnover following Jeremy Roach’s departure, with all five starters from the previous season moving on.

Mark Mitchell’s decision to leave, particularly as a rising junior anticipated to lead, comes as a surprise. Despite this, the Blue Devils have numerous compelling alternatives to fill the gap left by the talented forward.

Coincidentally, the ideal candidate to fill Mitchell’s shoes has emerged with reports indicating that Alabama forward Nick Pringle is entering the transfer portal.

Pringle, primarily utilized as a center for the Crimson Tide, possesses the versatility to play as a forward alongside Flagg. Despite averaging 6.8 points and 5.7 rebounds in 18.2 minutes per game this season, his stats may seem modest. However, they reflect Alabama’s fast-paced style, which relied heavily on its skilled backcourt for scoring opportunities.

Pringle demonstrated his potential when given extended playing time, notably achieving a double-double and showcasing an all-around performance in games where he logged more than 30 minutes. In the Elite Eight matchup against Clemson, he played 32 minutes, contributing 16 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block, shooting 8-for-13 from the free-throw line.

Additionally, he consistently scored in double figures during Alabama’s last seven regular-season games, indicating his capability to handle a larger role.

Pringle offers the kind of toughness, physicality, and veteran experience that the Blue Devils are looking for as Jon Scheyer revamps the team. However, it’s worth noting that Pringle has faced suspension twice this season due to behavior that negatively impacted the team.

Nevertheless, Duke will thoroughly assess Pringle’s fit. From a basketball standpoint, he appears to be an ideal candidate for the transfer portal.
