Throughout this year’s free agency, the Philadelphia Eagles have been among the teams that has been most active. To improve the team’s floor in 2024, they have secured the services of Saquon Barkley, Bryce Huff, and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.
In addition to looking outside the building for players to add, general manager Howie Roseman chose to hold onto a defensive starter from the 2023 season.
The Eagles have signed safety Reed Blankenship to a one-year deal through 2025, according to Zach Berman of PHLY.
Eagles News: An Extension is signed by Reed Blankenship The two starting safeties for the Eagles in 2024 are Blankenship and Gardner-Johnson, as of 2025.
Blankenship is a skilled player who plays well against the run and is an instinctive secondary defender. The former great player for Middle Tennessee State can also be a rangy playmaker above the hoop by using his pace.
The 25-year-old concluded 2023 with 113 total tackles, 17 interceptions, and pass deflections. These days, the Eagles have two safeties that can play both positions when necessary.
Blankenship recorded a 78 coverage grade and an overall grade of 73.4 according to PFF.
Sydney Brown will not be ready for the start of the season due to an ACL tear he sustained in Week 18. This is another overlooked benefit of the deal. Brown may reenter the game more easily because he has a player who has participated in this system for two years.
With one of the league’s strongest rosters, the Eagles have a strong chance of making it to Super Bowl LIX. At +1600, they now have the seventh-best odds to win the entire tournament in the NFL. Go to FanDuel Sportsbook, get your sign-up bonus, and support the Eagles with these odds.
